Pivot of Asia Under Trump’s Presidency
The
foreign policy is the cornerstone for all administrative practices on which key
officials lay the groundwork for future policies to do strategic decisions. In the
case of Trump, he is materializing the dream of Obama for the pivot in Asia that
will anticipate policies for upcoming four years of his ruling. After the transition
in governance, Trump in his first week of presidency did active diplomatic
engagements with the South Korean President Park Geun-hye and Japanese PM
Shinzo Abe .
Primarily,
Trump is maneuvering over the counter-terrorism strategies and diplomatic ties
with Russia. The rationale of Washington is to bolster regional allies by
active engagement with Taiwan and by presence of US Navy’s fleet in the
Pacific. Yet, China becomes the center of attention for the hawkish policies by
Washington.
At
this critical juncture, US Pacific allies are fueling the apprehensions for
less inclination towards Asia on the pretension for no nomination at senior
position in his administration from Asia. Rather, on the backdrop of transition,
Trump is devising the policies for stronghold in Asia. Amongst them is stark criticism by Rex
Tillerson , Secretary of state, on China for flexing his muscles for Military
might and expansionist policy in the South China Sea. Moreover, Trump’s Chief
strategist has keen interest to formulate strategies for Asian region.
Undeniably,
Trump has forthcoming policies for huge expenditures on defense and military power,
to stretch his influence in Asia. Not only, Trump has outpaced in Asian diplomatic ties as
compared to other regions. But also, administration of Trump is actively
slotting in filling out positions in the national security bureaucracy from
Asia. There is suspicion in the air that upcoming National Security Council
senior director would be nominated from Asia. However, there is mystery, when
the third world war would be fought for the clash on the economic interests with
China or flagrant strife with North Korea on the nuclear and missile programs. Neither
any one knows the flicking nature of Trump policies nor can anticipate Trump’s attention
towards Asia for good?
