Prerogative Commitments of Pak-china: Projects Based on Loans or Investments?

Abstract : Take pro-active initiatives to keep the diplomatic relationship and national sovereignty as it prime responsibility

There are looming speculations in the minds of denizens of Pakistan, regarding the prerogative commitments on 19 projects (MoUs) mostly based on power- energy grid. The intimidating doubts are hovering over the minds of think-thanks & analysts for chalking the clandestine motives of china in negotiating and bidding the projects to less- privileged country plague by the corruption charges; security issues and concurrent inevitable delays in delivering commandments. The govt. and head of state owe to the subjects to demonstrate the nature of projects as investment or loans. Let’s conjure; the nature of projects based on loans, therefore, required the cost on the sovereignty of Pakistan.

Another wayward in this regard can be to yoke & mitigate the risks of political and economic strategic objectives in a syndicate way. Firstly, our development projects approach and policies are not integrated squarely with the domestic affairs and national institutions to get tasks done with holistic and integrated approach.  Secondly, speculative nature of relationship has truly terms of ‘the iron brothers’ and ‘fair weather friend’ approaching for bilateral relationship. Chinese officials reaffirm the ratification of MoUs but did not clearly expound the amount of funds requisition and fulfillment. On their part, they were quick to dispel any speculation. Therefore, they had understated all conditions and warrants to operate & function of Gwadar port, Asia development bank and other relevant projects. These causes arouse the similar controversies as in ‘Nandipur Plant’ – an eye opener event.

Finally non-serious rationale & despotic Pakistani’s officials are at stake to grapple up with the extrication of hidden cost-escalation and unbounded time frame nature of projects. Thus, it can halt overall progress of projects. To conclude, Pakistan must not overburden the china and must take pro-active initiatives to keep the diplomatic relationship and national sovereignty as it prime responsibility. Hence, the government is obligated to the people to bring transparency into all aspects of the Chinese ‘investment’ package.
